Local girl Joanne Hewes will be starting her professional training as an actress at the prestigious Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London in September. Joanne grew up in Shrewton and attended Shrewton Primary School. A member of Shrewton Drama Club she appeared in many pantomimes, Wind in the Willows, Winnie the Pooh and played Molly Muffet in the Panto Little Miss Muffet. She attended Lavington School near Devizes where she played the Narrator in Joseph and Sandy in Grease and it was clear she was destined to be on the stage. She then went on to Cricklade College in Andover to study A Level English Literature and a BTEC National Diploma in Performing arts gaining a triple distinction the highest possible marks. Joanne attended Stagecoach Theatre Arts School in Salisbury from the age of 9 and has always been keen to be on the stage, performing in the children’s choir of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at both the Mayflower in Southampton and the Lighthouse Theatre in Poole.
Her determination to go on to an accredited drama school saw her turn down offers to University Drama courses and she worked relentlessly over three years doing summer schools and evening classes to refine her skills. This year, aged 21 all her hard work has paid off and she has secured a Dance and Drama Award full scholarship to attend Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. She has now moved to London in readiness for the start of the course in September and to follow in the footsteps of past graduates Denise Welch, Amanda Holden, Michael French and Connie Fisher to name but a few.
